DESOLDERING TECHNIQUES

USE OF COPPER WICK

  • Unroll some desoldering braid from its roll.(Optional: If you use unfluxed braid or want to improve the wicking of rosin/no-clean braid, apply more flux to it.)
  • place the end of the desoldering braid over the solder joint that you want to desolder.
  • Lightly press a hot soldering iron on top of the braid and hold it in place.
  • Lift the braid and the solder iron, while the solder is melt.
  • Clip the used section of braid off.

USE OF DESOLDERING PUMP

  • Melt the solder that you want to remove(You can do this with a soldering iron or with a hot air source)
  • Prime the desoldering pump by pressing down on the plunger until it locks into place.
  • Place the tip of the desoldering pump as close to the molten solder as possible.
  • Press the plunger release button while keeping the tip of the pump in place.
  • Repeat the previous steps until all solder is removed from the solder connections of the component.
  • Use a pair of pliers to pull the component from the circuit board.
